That’s great news! PT Citilink Indonesia, a low-cost airline based in Jakarta and Surabaya, has fulfilled all the necessary requirements under the PNG Civil Aviation Act to commence flights to and from Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. The Minister for Transport & Civil Aviation, Walter Schnaubelt, confirmed this in a recent media statement.
Citilink has obtained a Foreign Air Operator certificate from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, allowing them to operate as a foreign airline in Papua New Guinea under CAR rule part 129. Additionally, the Secretary of the Department of Transport (DOT), which serves as the licensing authority for foreign international airlines in Papua New Guinea, has issued Citilink an international airline license.
Starting from July 2, 2023, PT Citilink Indonesia will operate two flights per week between Port Moresby and Denpasar, Indonesia. This inaugural flight marks the beginning of their service. Citilink operates as a low-cost airline and currently operates 330 daily flight frequencies, serving 97 routes to 49 cities within Indonesia.
Their fleet consists of 61 aircraft, including the A330-900 NEO, A320-200 NEO, ATR 72-600, and Freighter B737-500. With these developments, travelers between Port Moresby and Indonesia will have more options and potentially more affordable flights with Citilink’s low-cost operating model.
